Lori Aylwin was born in Montreal and grew up in Calgary. Lori left home as a young women for the big city life in Toronto and finally settled in the Barrie area to raise her family. Lori’s career path has taken several turns: she worked as a social worker in Toronto for many years, she was a stay at home mother and she owned and operated a successful chain of retail stores before becoming a lawyer. Lori went to Osgoode Hall Law School when her youngest child entered kindergarten and she has had a successful family law practice, both as a sole proprietor and with a firm since 2003.

Lori has been a respected member on the Personal Rights Panel at the Office of the Children’s Lawyer (OCL) since 2003, representing both children and minor parents in custody and access matters, child protection proceedings, openness applications and adoptions.

Lori has been an active and engaged member of the Barrie community. She has been involved with Girl Guides of Canada as a leader, she has lead parent groups dealing with school board issues and she volunteered with the Out of the Cold Program for many years. Currently, Lori is a member of the Lawyer’s Feed the Hungry Committee for Barrie and she is on the Board of Directors for the New Path Foundation which manages philanthropic investment and mobilizes community support to meet the mental health needs of children, youth and families in Simcoe County.

Lori is actively involved in the Simcoe County Family Law Lawyers Association and she is on the Domestic Violence, Child Protection, Family Law and Mediation Advice Panels for Legal Aid Ontario.
