Our Midland Lawyers

The Law Firm of Hacker Gignac Rice (“HGR”) was formed in January 1981 with the three founding partners coming from three established Midland law firms. The Firm has been honoured by the Midland Chamber of Commerce for both the small business of the year and later as the large business of the year. It has been voted “favourite lawyers” in Midland for more than a dozen consecutive years. Fred Hacker and his co-founders John Gignac and Greg Rice established the core principle of service to the community, volunteering their talents and resources to boards, community, and cultural events in Midland and Penetangushene.

Fred Hacker has been a person of influence in the Midland legal community. He is a fourth generation Midlander and it was Fred who set the tone of practice excellence and community service for our Midland office. Now retired, Fred continues to be a great friend of the firm and is active in such community causes as the Midland Cultural Centre, Day in the Life Series.

Greg Rice was a partner of John Gammell, later Justice Gammell. Originally from the Burlington area, Greg too has made himself a true Midlander. Greg has contributed to our community in many ways, including serving on the local YMCA Wise Men, and animating legal discussions at the firm’s Wednesday morning meetings. With his booming voice and laugh, there was never a question about whether Greg was in the building.

Our Midland office now offers legal representation in all of our practice areas, including wills and estates, family law, corporate commercial and litigation.
